Vintage 1930s Chinese art deco carpet designed by, or in the style of, Walter Nichols (1885- 1960), the foremost American producer operating in China during that period. His carpets are prized for their bold, energetic patterns and vibrant colors, all of which originally appealed to a Western clientele. At his peak, Nichols had over 15 rug factories in operation throughout China and is therefore largely credited with the popularization of Chinese Art Deco rugs in America between the 1910s-1950s. Hand- knotted wool and silk, mint green with colorful floral decoration and plush pile. Good condition.
