This charming vintage pitcher and 4 goblets feature the bacchanalian motif of grapes and leaves. In order to achieve the embossing effect, a craftsman would have poured molten glass into an engraved mold. While glass has been cast since Egyptian times, it was not until the technological advances of the 19th century that glassmakers could shape glass by pressing. Since its discovery, the technique has been long-favored by craftsmen and collectors alike. This set is particularly stunning for its pearlesent turquiose to purple coloration.
