Manufactured in the 1930s by the West End furniture company (Rockford Illinois), this stately piece effortlessly unites form and function. Five ample drawers offer plenty of storage while classicizing decorative accents provide visual interest throughout. The surface is faced with a warm burl veneer and delicate carved hardware. Eighteenth-century motifs such as patarae and urn shaped mounts harken back to a long-held American taste for decorative elements deemed Greek in inspiration. Likewise, the arrow (or peg) foot is connected to earlier periods. Made in the with an ever-expanding American consumer base in mind, this chest on chest is wholly representative they types of revival style pastiches that were quite fashionable during the first few decades of the twentieth century.
